Since my family worked so hard in ensuring that my wedding ran as smoothly as it could (mama’s toes even turned blue cos I insisted she wore covered shoes instead of makcik2 sandals, hahahaha I feel so bad sia :() I decided to treat them to a steamboat dinner. But not just any steamboat dinner leh. I treated them to the halal version of the famous Lok Lok Steamboat.
What is the Lok Lok Steamboat?
It derives from the popular Satay Celup in Malacca. I first saw this one of a kind delicacy while watching a short clip on the Asian Food Channel where the host travelled to Malacca just to have a taste of it.
Satay celup is also known as Lok Lok Steamboat satay, where sticks of raw or semi-cooked meats and vegetables are dipped into a boiling pot of satay gravy for several minutes like so …

Interesting concept yeah? Dunk, wait (for a while) and eat!
Luckily for me (and my malay muslim friends), there is a halal version right here in our little country, but located outside this little dot (technically speaking). You can find halal Lok Lok Steamboat or Satay Celup in Sentosa! :)
Basically, same concept but different setting. Not a “hawker-like” background but more of an open-air kampung ambience. But they did not have the in-table steamboat ala the one in Malacca, just the normal Yin & Yang steamboat on top of a burner.
Nice right?
But unfortunately for us, it rained that day. So they had to move all patrons indoors which totally defeats the purpose of us experiencing the kampung setup(!) wasted trip I guess?
Indoor was cramped, not much walking space. So must turn by turn walk back and forth lo.
Anyway, there are 4 soup bases for us to choose from;
Satay Gravy
Tom Yam
Laksa
Chicken
We opted for the satay gravy and tom yam. While the satay gravy was full of flavour and body, it was quite rich yet loose (cair) enough to coat your skewered food. I thought the tom yam would be as other unauthentic tom yam I’ve tasted in SG but no leh, full of flavour as well despite being unauthentic. Not like those from Bagus la, As Salam la. I could really taste the sourness and the spiciness. I thought I would enjoy the satay gravy since I went there just to try it, I preferred the tom yam better.
The array of skewered food items and drinks, all free flow la of cos.
All images are from FRC Dining’s FB cos I did not snap enough pictures that day as I was busy eating, no surprises there. I only managed to snap this one picture only of the food items.
hahahahaha!
and also this;
so obvious which one we liked better right judging from the satay sticks :P
Funny story: I did not realise that I had made reservations on a ZoukOut weekend -_- So many youngster in bikinis, shorts and singlets. Dun get me started on the hard thumping music. I was actually glad that we were moved indoors if not our dinner will be interrupted! And also, the management did not inform us of the back gate being locked for that weekend so we had to make a huge turn to go to the restaurant. My poor parents, lutut satu2 da longgar adoii~
I think we spent around an hour eating which was very short of us knowing that we went there with empty stomachs. Maybe the pre-dinner exercise (naik turun bukit) made us lose our appetite. Such a waste seh. I think we would have enjoyed the dinner more if not for the weather, the unplanned exercise and the noise.
