Interior Designer or Contractor?

Friday, 9 May 2014

The keys to our new home are already in our possession but we have yet to start beautifying it. Reason being, we have a wedding on the way come this October and our savings sadly cannot handle 2 blows at once. And also, we have yet to decide whether to engage an ID or renovation contractor.
So many IDs and renovation contractors to choose from but so little time and so much headache LOL! I have been requesting for quotations from both and comparing them together with my fiance to see which suits our budget better.

I wanted an ID but my fiance is more inclined towards engaging a contractor, naturally. I do want to keep it within our budget as renovation contractors are said to be a bit cheaper than IDs but I want a visual design of my home first before I take the plunge. We might have one design in our heads but if the contractor did not fulfil that, we cannot turn back time right? IDs provide 3D drawings for their clients so that clients can visualise their future homes. What can renovation contractors provide in that line?

So what is REALLY the difference between an Interior Designer and a Renovation Contractor?
Anyways, we have set an appointment with an ID recommended by my secondary school friend who is currently renovating his unit which is beside our block for tomorrow afternoon and a contractor who did my fiance’s friend’s house on Sunday. We will not be making decision on the spot la of course. We still need to weigh the pros and cons of engaging them first and whether we are comfortable with them or not. I still waiting for our companies to share with me their quotations cos we cannot make decisions based on 2 quotations/contracts ma.

so with that said, I forsee a busy weekend for us :) cant wait!
