Before we even collect our house keys, I have done my research on which model and brand of appliances I should take for my new house. Like everyone else, I had my eyes on a glass hob cos its lawa and easy to clean, just wipe off ma, no hard work. But after reading up and surveying, I was advised that glass hob MIGHT crack under prolong heat or when you accidentally dropped something on it. It will not happen on the same day but the impact would have started the ball rolling. I also read that some glass hobs exploded and shards of glass flew across the kitchen. That is so scary. I do not know how true or how reliable the source is but better be safe than sorry. Immediately I changed my mind and decided on a stainless steel hob.
I also researched and asked around on what model I should go for. My fiance said Rinnai is a good brand, my father mentioned Turbo Italia, so did my girlfriend. Also, my father has a client who is the boss of Turbo in Singapore and he can and might give me a good price for the appliances package AISEYMAN. We visited the showroom at Loyang area and even though Turbo is a reliable brand, I wasn't too keen on the design. So old school! Like my parents' current hob. Hahahaha! Dowan la. Of cos I wanted a modern looking hob but my father just said to email the boss my preferred package and we will see from there.
So I searched on Rinnai next and they carry stainless steel hobs too and their designs are similar to their glass hob siblings, very modern. By then, I was already sold on this brand, that I didnt want to look at any other brands. When we were at Hoe Kee a few weeks back (was just looking and asking around for prices), I looked around the shop and I see no Rinnai, only EF, Fujioh, Ariston, Tecno but no Rinnai. So I started googling for dealers and distributors for this brand and came across 2; J.erome from R.enotalk and U.niversal U.nion E.nterprises P.te L.td. I emailed them for their best quotation for hob, hood and oven package and I found them to be very affordable. ok la, around the standard package price.
Last Saturday, we were supposed to visit J.erome at his shop, Kah Hock Repairer & Trading at Blk 87 Circuit Road (since he gave me a cheaper quotation compared to UE) after purchasing our fans and kitchen light but Laoban asked me what else I needed.
Me: uncle, you carry Rinnai hobs or not?
Boss: have have have!
Me: -_____- I called and your staff said don't have leh.
Boss: aiya we have everything la...
hmmm ok boss, whatever you say. By the way, the boss is an elderly man, grandfatherly type already. He brought us back to his table and took out his file containing fliers of different brands of hobs, hoods and oven models.
I showed him the hob, hood and oven that I wanted and he worked out a quotation for me. To my disappointment, it was much higher than what J.erome quoted me. So I told him, let me think about it first and asked my fiance to survey the water heaters there (water heater post will be up soon). By then I was cranky and tired already because the CSO who sold their fans and kitchen light to us was very irritating, kept asking "ma'am you paying by cash or credit?" like a broken record. I told my mum I dont want to take appliances there because the price different was big. She then told Laoban "laoban ahh, other places giving my daughter cheaper you know?" LOL! the nerve! He sat back down, recalculated and showed me the figures. I compared to J.erome's. A hundred plus difference! I asked Yan for his opinion, he said "up to you..." -___-
But oh well... now, I can haz my Rinnai kitchen appliances!
